Beachtek BRM-1: The ideal Blackmagic rail adapter?

Beachtek just released their 15mm rail adapter – previously unique to their DXA-SLR Ultra audio adapter – as a separate baseplate called the BRM-1.

I’ve been looking forward to this one. To me, it seemed as if the unit was ideal to mount on top of a Blackmagic Cinema Camera – and be wide enough to allow one to drill the plate on each side to accommodate the left and right bolts on the BMCC’s upper chassis. Can’t be content using it the way it was intended!

While I have not taken the drill press to my brand-new BRM-1, I already tried mounting it to the BMCC with a spare camera plate screw in place of the supplied piece. Voilà:

Granted, I also replaced the rails supplied with the BRM-1 for a longer set, and added the handle and Fotga follow focus wheels. The Beachtek rails thread into the adapter, so you must keep this in mind when you choose your rails as well. The Fotga DP500 follow focus units are also mounted upside-down on their brackets, and could stand a bit more modification to the hardware.

Regardless, the main point is that it works. I have a large shoot on Wednesday which should prove the reliability of this system – or the lack of it.
